Course Descriptions
IACCA offers 6 courses* that a retreat or conference center professional needs. If you are working towards the IACCA Professional certification, or just want to grow in your career, consider these vital events. Take one or all. IACCA welcomes both non-members and members in the courses.
Audience: manager, supervisor, director, CEO, or board member.
- Business Administration & Governance Every successful conference center professional has a clear understanding about how to manage complex administrative tasks under the guidance of a board of directors. Attention is given to those administrative practices that are unique to conference center. This course helps students understand how structure and attention to tasks can lead to creative fulfillment of the purpose of a center.
- Facilities Management. Conference centers that truly meet the needs of the persons and groups that use them have well managed facilities. This course integrates the critical components of superior property management with the associated program and educational needs of resident learning programs. Students will learn the best practices of short and long term facility management.
- Finance. More than ever before the financial health of conference centers is a major factor contributing to the quality of service provided. In this course students learn the important components necessary for accurate projecting and informative record keeping that makes fund management support the vitality of the center.
- Hospitality: Hospitality is an area in which a center can distinguish itself from all others. Learn how an astute manager or director will make considerable effort to understand the mission and then provide leadership that results in the staff, services, and facilities supporting and enhancing the mission.
- Human Resources. A conference center will provide services that are directly reflective of the skills and personalities of the staff. Understanding both management and motivation for the persons who work at the center is the core of this very important course. Students will learn leadership skills along with becoming aware of current employer practices.
- Marketing. Individuals guests and groups selecting a conference center are faced with many locations and facility types from which to choose. This course teaches the importance of using modern methods including the internet to present the best qualities of the center in order to attract the desired clientele. Students will receive instruction in developing the message along with providing the ongoing communication necessary to create repeat use relationships.
The schedule is designed for you as a working professional to arrive one day and leave on the same day the course concludes, saving you lodging and time away from your center.

Capstone Seminar
The Capstone Seminar is the final educational requirement in the Certification process. It takes place over four days at a member site.
The four-day Capstone Seminar pulls together the knowledge from the six courses, teaches additional information, adds your experiences on the job, and guides you to prepare a practical, customized, operating plan for your Center.
